re/emerge

  • Vacancy Atlas 107 Cornwall Street Plymouth, England, PL1 1PA United Kingdom (map)

‘re/emerge’ is a collaborative exploration of the generation, growth, and development of artistic practice by the PhD researchers Rachael Allain, Sian Gouldstone and Hu Yue (胡悦). In the exhibition and accompanying publication, the artists use their practice to explore in and about known, and unknown, geographic, topographic, cultural and social worlds. The trio each relay their different approaches to practice via their work on the walls, as well as in conversation with other artists. From this combination of discussions, and still and moving images, there emerges a set of entwined and shared interests and modes of practical research enquiry. A broad set of interests is found to connect the artists: returns, repetitions, removals, horizons, reclamations, remediations, the emergent (submergent and re-emergent), movement, embodiment, materiality, the multiplicity of representation and the ephemeral nature of affects and experience.
